I feel really confident about observing lessons because I think I can learn a lot.
My ideas about observation have changed in the sense that now I know I don't have to be so critical. And that is why I think I won't have any problems as regards observing lessons. As I said before, I feel very confident about it.
Personally, I think I can learn a lot from my observations. For example, I can learn how to handle students; new activities and games; and improve in every aspect possible.

My dictionary shows 2 possible meanings for "critical":
* Marked by a tendency to find and call attention to errors and flaws
* Characterized by careful evaluation and judgment
I agree with your idea of "not being so critical" in the first case, but not at all in the second one! ;-)
Something I have learnt a lot about by observing others is how to give positive feedback! Teachers are usually such enthusiastic learners, and yet so self-demanding,with high expectations to succeed, that you need to be really careful when you answer the typical "so... what did you think of it?" immediately after sitting in on their lesson... No doubt this has contributed to enhancing my own teaching...

I know that teachers are enthusiastic about their learnings because I include myself in that aspect. The point is that I have change the way of observing in the sense that I am not expecting flaws to appear. On the contrary, I want to learn as much as possible and take the possitive aspects of the class.
Here's another way to put it:
We need to expect 'flaws' to crop up during all lessons (accepting life is not perfection! Having accepted that, we should remember we can learn a lot mre from focussing on assets than on weaknessess.
Laura Lewin (an Argentinian leader in congress organization for English teachers) often says: "If you want people to excel, catch them doing great!"
We'll certainly come back to this issue of what to focus on when we discuss giving feedback!

That's why I have changed the way I used to observe (when I started the TTC). I have changed my mind as regards "perfection". Now, to me, is obvious that no one is perfect and even less we teachers, so I concentrate on the assets and try to learn as much as possible from teachers.
